Jamie de Groot

Jamie de Groot (NL, 1993) studied dance at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. After completing his studies, he worked for Club Guy & Roni, Jan Martens, SALLY, and the National Opera. In 2017, he established his own dance company, Dance Company the Kitchen. Together with Rosa Allessie, he also established De Afspraak, a new dance platform in Leiden that organizes performances by young dancers at special locations. Jamie is the artistic director of the platform.

In 2015 and 2016, Jamie was one of the young choreographers who took part in the choreographic residencies of SALLY. During his first residency, he created the show Stay (Up) Date that was also performed at the Festival Over ‘t IJ.  In his second residency, he mainly researched his new show Urban Castaway, for which he also composed the music.

As a choreographer, Jamie and his dance company have already performed at various festivals throughout the Netherlands. His work is in large part inspired by human behavior and the human psyche. This finds expression in powerful movement whereby theatrical aspects and strong emotions take turns sharing the spotlight. He also always composes his own music for the performances.
